Words on the Wall: A Discussion with Elizabeth Ashamu Deng

Elizabeth Ashamu Deng, cyanotype artist, is drawn to the kanga — both for its form, and for what's printed along its border: a proverb, or saying, a few words meant to be worn and read. As she translates kanga into art for the home, she's come to appreciate the power of putting words directly into art — the way a short, repeatable phrase, worn or spoken again and again, can slowly reshape how we see a situation, or ourselves.

Join her for a discussion on words: the proverbs and affirmations we carry with us, and their power.
